KEB - Drive Technology for “Special Motors”

Whether high-speed spindle, high-torque motor, reluctance motor, linear motor, … KEB has established itself in the field of ‘drive technology for special motors’. The technical expertise of our specialists, the test, measuring and simulation technique as well as the hard- and software of the drive controllers is prepared especially for the operation of special motors.

The image of an electro motor has changed dramatically in the past years. The classic asynchronous motor for the drive or the synchronous servo motor for the positioning is in many cases, no longer adequate for the modern highly integrated machine design.

The term ‘form factor’ applies to very special motors in a variety of geometric and electrical designs.

Drum motors for belt conveyor systems, disc shaped rotore motors with directly attached sawing blades, linear motors as replacement for ball screws and last but not least housing less motor components for direct and precise fitting into the axle head.

The ‘F5’ generation already covers a number of motor models, with high-precision speed-controlled operation – even without encoder.

With the drive controller generations COMBIVERT S6, H6, F6 KEB puts it on a new performance level. The hardware resources of the control cards have been improved once more and the processing power has been increased. These measures now allow to combine all operating modes and motor variants in one single software.

With this, the KEB ‘Generation 6’ becomes a multi-talent, which serves all applications by one basic platform.

In addition KEB has build-up the sector ‘feasibility analysis’.

The R&D and application engineers are using modern calculation tools and powerful simulation technology.  With the exact motor data the response of drive controller and motor in critical operating points can be calculated.

This knowledge is substantiated by a real-time simulation in the HIL system (Hardware In The Loop).

Based on electrical, magnetic and mechanical parameters the motor is modeled in detail and implemented into the system.

Combined with the real control card hardware an entirely new simulation network is created. With the results from this system, we are able to make an up front statement about feasibility and critical operating points.

In cooperation with the motor manufacturer we can combine the drive controller and motor model, test the interaction of the complete functional chain and route the construction and design of the drive controller and motor in the right direction without elaborate prototyping.
