Decentral EtherCAT I/O modules with modular extension facility make the connection of sensors and actuators for machines and plant flexibly adaptable. The high-performance EtherCAT protocol is used in the KEB remote I/O System from the first to the last I/O module.

Integration of EtherCAT technology in further field bus systems is ensured by the new multi-fieldbus interface (MFI), which couples Profinet, EtherCAT, EthernetIP or Powerlink as slave to higher or lower level control systems. Further modules complete the KEB I/O System.

The remote I/O modules are integrated into the EtherCAT network centrally via the bus coupler or directly using the C6 SMART profile rail controller. The interface, arranged on the side, contains the EtherCAT field bus and the system voltage. No special module terminal is required in KEB's I/O modules since the last module terminates the supply and return lines accordingly as a network element.

Standard network topology is the line structure which can be expanded into a tree structure via the 2-port extender.

The product portfolio of KEB I/O modules is being supplemented by new elements. These include various temperature modules (PT/NI/Thermo) and counter modules, and also the drive module for controlling stepper and/or brushless DC motors.

The new generation of KEB I/O modules is parameterized and managed via the CoE interface (CANopen over EtherCAT). The key advantage of this module lies in the initialisation, since here there is now no need to initialise each channel individually from the program.

Safety functions are becoming more important in innovative industrial systems and make it easier for the machine manufacturer to comply with the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC. Here, KEB offers the combination of Safety PLC (safety control) and Safety I/O module (safe input/output module) as a basis for an innovative, integrated safety solution which can be integrated in existing EtherCAT structures.

Communication takes place by the certified safety protocol Safety over EtherCAT® (FSoE), and uses the EtherCAT wiring to exchange secure process data between individual modules. For the new generation of machines, this means flexible implementation of automation elements and additional safety functions in a single programming environment. In addition, the Safety PLC - like all other KEB controls - is programmed in KEB's central software tool COMBIVIS studio 6. Certified safety function modules are integrated into the programming tool in accordance with safety standards to IEC 61508 SIL 3 and DIN EN ISO 13849-1 Ple.
